This project was undertaken in the fall of 2004 by students in the Faculty of Environmental Design, University of Calgary with funding from the Alpine Club of Canada. The purpose of the project was to provide solutions to infrastructure problems in alpine huts to minimise environmental impacts and meet the needs of the mountaineering community. Issues that were considered included user's perspectives, facility design, ecological considerations and policy framework. Solutions were provided for heating, lighting, waste management, and water treatment.
