No other organization in Canada is currently focusing on problems associated with energy, water and waste management in remote, alpine and sub-alpine locations. There is no repository of energy, water and waste management information that is suitable to the needs of operators of backcountry facilities.
Many existing technologies lack research and assessment in the rigours of the backcountry. Some technologies are not working as well as expected or are working acceptably only after extensive modifications or expensive maintenance input.
Operators of backcountry facilities are reluctant to accept financial and ecological risks associated with using new and untried technological solutions. BEES contributes to the development and assessment of a variety of worthy projects.
